In December 2005 Digicel announced the initial launch of WiMAX (World Interoperability for Microwave Access) broadband service in the Cayman Islands. Since then we’ve been rolling out our wireless broadband services to other regions.

With our successful launch of our Personal Broadband Service in the Cayman Islands in September 2007, Digicel is pioneering a IEEE Standard 802.16e ready WiMAX network in the Caribbean. We look forward to rolling out personal wireless broadband services in other markets in the near future.

WiMAX allows access to international and data services – alternative technology with all the features of Broadband and true broadband speeds over wireless networks at a cost point to enable mass market adoption. WiMAX is the only wireless standard today that has the ability to deliver true broadband speeds and help make the vision of pervasive connectivity a reality.

Soon WiMAX will be a very well recognized term to describe Wireless Internet access throughout the world.
